Anyway, it's an older computer I got for my children. Everything runs great and we're learning how to use windows 8.1, with one exception. There is no sound. The little sound icon at the bottom of the screen says no speakers or headphones detected. I've made sure the onboard sound is enabled in the bios, but the only sound driver appears to be an HDMI audio driver, which I think is coming from my video card (Because it's the only thing with an HDMI port) but my monitor and video card are not hooked up through HDMI and my monitor is not HDMI ready. How can I get Windows 8.1 to recognize the onboard sound/audio?

I downloaded Belarc Adviser to figure out exactly which motherboard I had and went to the Compaq website and they had drivers for just about every OS except for windows 8. Can I download the Windows 7 drivers and use them? Or is there another work around so that I can use the onboard sound device rather than getting a new HDMI monitor with sound? Thanks, Baggi. I tried going here: - Audio And downloading two different windows 7 drivers. The 64 bit home premium driver and the 64 bit professional driver. I chose the 64 bit drivers because my machine is running 64 bit windows 8.1. Both of those drivers gave me the same message. 'The audio drivers do not support your computer hardware' Which leaves me back at square one.

The only driver I have listed under sound is Digital Audio (HDMI), which I think is my video card, because I don't have any other HDMI ports on my machine other than from my video card. My monitor isn't HDMI however, it's digital, so I'm plugged into the monitor through the digital connection. Is this the right place to ask for assistance to fix this? Thanks, Baggi.
