Vlc Fluidsynth Windows
Code: fluidsynth: warning: Failed to pin the sample data to RAM; swapping is possible. And I am hearing nothing.
I've searched the internet and many sites tell me something of a 'limit', that I have to change or something. But I couldn't find real help yet, for example, one site tells me something about /usr/bin/jackd, but I don't have anything with Jack there. Any suggestions? Shall I install any jack-related stuff on my computer, or is there a config file, I can edit? EDIT: My system: OS: Linux Mint 17 64-bit Cinnamon Version: 2.2.16 Linux Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic Processor: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics x 2 Memory: 7.7 GiB Graphics Card: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
AMD/ATI Bonaire XTX Radeon R7 260X (prog-if 00 VGA controller) EDIT 2: Okay, it's the soundfont! Using fluidsynth's GS soundfont, I couldn't hear anything. Using any other soundfont, such as fluidsunth's GM etc. However, there is some annoying noise together with the instruments when playing through the commandline. Somehow, everything sounds perfect using that soundfont with fluidsynth over audacious.
Kyphi wrote:It would be helpful if you stated what operating system you are using and its version. Did you install VLC before running the command to install the plugin? There is another way to get midi files to play and that is to install timidity and freepats, see: VLC was already installed, I just added the plugin.
After installing timidity with freepats, timidity works fine it's nice though, I'd like to be able to use fluidsynth as well, because I'm going to use that in my program code. Any other ideas about fluidsynth? I just checked in synaptic on my desktop - vlc-plugin-fluidsynth is not listed. The only entry in that category is 'fluid-soundfont-gm 3.1-5'. I think that was installed when I downloaded the vlc-plugin-fluidsynth.
I also installed the vlc-plugin-fluidsynth on my laptop and that now plays midi files. Fluidsynth is not installed there either. If I type fluidsynth into a terminal, it produces the message that it is not currently installed and to install it I should use '# apt-get install fluidsynth'. Perhaps that is what is wrong in your system and fluidsynth should not be there. Since you showed an image of Audacious, I installed that program (now removed) but it would not play midi files without an additional plugin download. With the vlc-plugin-fluidsynth installed, it seems that it has a system-wide effect in that I can play midi files in VLC, Videos (Totem), Banshee and even Firefox.
Timidity has always worked with the installation of the 3 files (timidity, timidity-interfaces-extra, freepats) but I do not have these installed currently. Timidity has always worked with the installation of the 3 files (timidity, timidity-interfaces-extra, freepats) but I do not have these installed currently. I installed fluidsynth with synaptic package manager (should correspond to the single command 'apt-get install fluidsynth') and also the development files to use it in my C code, but I didn't get any sound. I configured audacious' MIDI plugin to use the fluidsynth backend plugin and chose the fluidsynth soundfont, I also installed, and audacious didn't give me any sound. The same is with fluidsynth in the command line (told it to use the alsa driver).
Even after installing the jack driver and using fluidsynth on the commandline (using jack by default), there is no sound. Timidity (commandline) itself didn't give me any sound either, but did fine after installing freepats as well. VLC was already installed on my computer, but it said it has no support for MIDI files.
After installing the vlc fluidsynth plugin, VLC didn't complain any longer and 'played' the MIDI file (I could even see the timeline). But, I didn't hear anything and the audio visualization didn't show anything either, but VLC's volume was 100%.
Fluidsynth works fine with my Mint 16 installation on a different computer, which I have already been using for months. I don't know whether I did something there and I didn't on my computer. But maybe it has also something to do with the computer itself.
My system (PC, quite fresh install; MIDI with fluidsynth does not work): OS: Linux Mint 17 64-bit Cinnamon Version: 2.2.16 Linux Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic Processor: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics x 2 Memory: 7.7 GiB Graphics Card: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD/ATI Bonaire XTX Radeon R7 260X (prog-if 00 VGA controller) My old system (Laptop, already using for months; MIDI with fluidsynth does work when choosing ALSA): OS: Linux Mint 16 64-bit Cinnamon Version: 2.0.14 Linux Kernel: 3.11.0-12-generic Processor: Intel© Core™ i5-2520M CPU ² 2.50GHz x 2 Memory: 5.4 GiB Graphics Card: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller. Experiment: 1. Tried to play a midi file on my wife's computer. Error message stated that there was no plugin available. Installed 'vlc-plugin-fluidsynth'.
During installation the following messages appeared: The following extra packages will be installed: fluid-soundfont-gm Suggested packages: fluid-soundfont-gs fluidsynth timidity The following NEW packages will be installed: fluid-soundfont-gm vlc-plugin-fluidsynth Now midi plays in Movies, VLC, Banshee and Firefox (Firefox asks for authorisation first). None of the suggested packages have been installed. I tried a different soundfont, I had somewhere on my computer (which I could also have installed through the package manager), and fluidsynth + alsa driver now works!
I don't know, what's the matter with the other soundfont. However, I get some strange noise together with the instrument that are played. It's the same with my laptop, and I don't have it with timidity for example. I also tried some other soundfonts with fluidsynth, where sound actually works but there's the same kind of noise.
